My name is Ahmed Shaaban, and I am a climatologist in the Climate Department of the Egyptian Meteorological Authority. I earned my PhD in 2021 from the University at Albany, where I also completed my master’s degree in 2015. My research has focused on the variability of the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) and its interaction with ENSO, particularly its influence on East African precipitation.

I am broadly interested in understanding the dynamics of the IOD and its regional impacts. My work also explores the vertical structure of Kelvin waves, especially in light of limitations imposed by the common assumption of a rigid tropopause. In addition, I am interested in the variability of the Madden–Julian Oscillation (MJO), particularly changes in its phase speed under different background states.

More recently, I have been developing an interest in subtropical climate dynamics, with a focus on how the tropics and midlatitudes interact.

I welcome opportunities for collaboration, discussion, and exchange of ideas with researchers and practitioners working on related topics.
